Moscow Welcomes Serbia's Lifting State of Emergency

Moscow welcomes the Serbian government's decision to lift the state of emergency in the country, reads the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesman, Alexander Yakovenko.

On April 22nd, Serbian incumbent President, Natasa Miziz, issued a decree lifting the state of emergency in the republic introduced after the tragic death of Chairman of the Serbian government, Zoran Djindjic, on March 12th.

In this period, Serbia's law enforcement bodies have carried out a large-scale operation against the local organised crime, Yakovenko recalled. During the operation the police solved the murder of Zoran Djindjic and a number of other grave crimes.

"We are convinced that effective upkeep of law and order in usual conditions is the best way to secure human rights and freedoms, restore civil peace and normal political life in the republic," Yakovenko stressed.

When the bill was submitted to Congress on August 2, the reason for imposing the new sanctions on Russia was based on Russia's alleged interference in the US presidential election in 2016, but then something clicked
