IMF recommends Ukraine to pay on its debts

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is for Ukraine's gradual return of IMF credits as otherwise it may have an adverse effect on the country's basic economic indicators, IMF Deputy Managing Director Ann Krueger announced at her meeting with Ukrainian Economy Minister Valery Khoroshkovsky yesterday. The sides agreed to work out a respective debt payment schedule taking into account Ukraine's major economic indicators.

In late August, Chairman of the Ukrainian National Bank Sergey Tigipko declared that the bank was ready to pay off $1.8bn within a year. This sum is normally to be paid before the year 2009, and the government has not decided on this issue as yet.
