Former tropical storm Ivo to remain off Mexico's Baja California coast

Former tropical storm Ivo appeared likely to remain well off Mexico's Baja California coast.

Ivo no longer had much of the center or well-defined bands that distinguish tropical storms, but its center was last reported about 80 miles (130 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, the center reported.

The system was expected to move eastward, passing south of the resort cities of Los Cabos at the extreme southern tip of the Baja peninsula, though Ivo could still bring some rain to the area.

The resort cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo were hit early this month by Hurricane Henriette.

Ivo still had maximum sustained winds of around 30 mph (48 kph) and but was expected to completely dissipate on Monday, without making it into the Gulf of California.

In the Atlantic, Subtropical Storm Jerry formed Sunday but posed no immediate threat to land, the National Hurricane Center said.

Jerry was located about 1,060 miles (1,705 kilometers) west of the Azores, with maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (64 kph).

Forecasters said the storm was moving to the north around 6 mph (10 kph) and is expected to move over open waters, far west of the Azores.
