The leadership of the Northern Alliance highly assessed the results of the meeting between the President of Russia and of the Islamic State of Afghanistan. Vladimir Putin and President of the internationally recognised government of Afghanistan Burhanuddin Rabbani met in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, on Sunday-Monday night. As RIA Novosti was told by informed sources in the Northern Alliance, the anti-Taliban coalition regards as symbolic the statement of the head of the Russian state about Russia's broad support for the Rabbani government as the only legitimate one in Afghanistan. The sources also underscored that it would be very much unjust if the priority in forming a transitional government would be given to other political forces, in particular, to former King of Afghanistan Mohammed Zahir Shah. In the conversation with RIA Novosti, the sources explained that the very idea of forming a coalition government belonged to the leadership of the Northern Alliance.
