Russia's Afghan Community Backs U.N. Initiatives Dealing With Future Political Settlement In Afghanistan

Russia's Afghan community backs United Nations' initiatives dealing with future political settlement in Afghanistan and is ready to assist in this process in every possible way, announced Habib al-Rahman Niyazi, the director of the Center of Afghan Studies, at a Friday press conference. Representatives of the Afghan community participating in the conference stressed that all Afghans, including the numerous Afghan diasporas abroad, must assist in the restoration of the Afghan state and economy. They also supported the idea of an upcoming meeting of Afghanistan's opposed parties under UN auspices /scheduled to take place in Bonn on November 26, the meeting will gather representatives of all Afghan groups except Taliban from Afghanistan and abroad/, and regretted the fact that Afghans residing in Russia were not officially invited to this event. Among those attending the conference in Moscow were well-known businessman Qamaluddin Nabi-zadeh and some of the activists of Russia's Afghan community.
