Indonesian police questions Islamic militants in bombing of Australian embassy

Indonesian police are questioning three suspected Islamic militants over possible links with a fugitive terror mastermind and last year's bombing outside the Australian Embassy, a police spokesman said Wednesday. The three were detained last week in central Java province and were being interrogated in Jakarta, said Col. Ketut Untung Yoga. He identified the three as Fathurahman, Buhori and Yasin al-Reza. They have not been charged with any crime.

Yoga said the men were being questioned over possible links with alleged terror boss Noordin Top, as well as the 2004 Australian Embassy truck bombing, which killed 11 people. They can be held for seven days before police have to charge or release them.

Indonesian courts have convicted six Muslim militants for their role in the Sept. 9 bombing. Two have been sentenced to death.

Noordin is accused of being a key leader in Jemaah Islamiyah, the al-Qaida linked terror group blamed for the embassy blast and three other strikes against Western targets, including last month's suicide bombings on Bali island, reports the AP. I.L.
