Nugzar Sadzhaya, the national security adviser to the Georgian president, has thanked Russian peacekeepers for their contribution to the settlement of the Abkhazian conflict but stressed that their mandate was not enough to keep them in Georgia. Speaking at a press conference that followed his meeting with the secretary of the Russian Security Council Vladimir Rushailo /which was held in the Belarussian capital on Friday in the framework of a session of the Committee of Security Council Leaders from countries participating in the Collective Security Treaty/, Sadzhaya stressed that the Georgian parliament had advised the president to remove Russian peacekeeping forces from Georgia or have their mandate changed. According to the Georgian official, the issue was discussed by Vladimir Putin and Eduard Shevardnadze during the Moscow summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The sides have also launched subject-related consultations with competent international organisations.
