Qatar deports Russian diplomat

Qatar has declared first secretary of the Russian Embassy in Qatar persona non grata, the France Presse agency reports citing Qatar's official representative.

The Russian diplomat is asked to leave the country within 24 hours.

"I expected something of the kind. So far the Embassy has not received anything officially," Russian Ambassador to Qatar Viktor Kudryavtsev is quoted as saying. According to him, the Russian diplomat will leave the country if this is the Qatari authorities' decision.

Qatar's official representative said that the name of the Russian who was to leave the country was Alexander Vitisov.
