A Russian representative will join the UN Security Council mission to the Great Lakes region in Burundi early in May, said the Foreign Ministry Press and Information Department in connection with the consideration by the UN Security Council of the situation in Burundi. The statement also reads that the Security Council called on the country's public forces for cooperation in order to secure efficient functioning of its transitional institutions of power. It also urged all confronting parties to immediately stop hostile actions, and armed groups to take part in negotiations on concluding a ceasefire agreement. The UN Security Council also called on the donor community to increase the volumes of aid to Burundi for economic and humanitarian rehabilitation. Thus, the Security Council showed again that it supports the assistance to be rendered to African regional efforts in settling this old conflict.
