Two unknown men tried to break into UNMOVIC headquarters at the local Canal hotel over a 30-minute interval.
The first incident happened at about 8.00 a.m. Moscow time when international inspectors were getting ready to leave the hotel and to resume their inspections. An Iraqi national armed with two knives tried to break through a security-guard cordon but was detained.
According to eye-witness reports, another man, who also looked like an Iraqi, tried to snatch some documents out of an UNMOVIC car but was also detained by hotel guards.
The Iraqi side, as well as a spokesperson for UNMOVIC and IAEA in Iraq, haven't yet confirmed these reports.
This is the first such incident after UNMOVIC resumed its inspections in Iraq November 27, 2002.
