President of Tajikistan proposes reducing sphere of enforcement of capital punishment in the republic

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmonov has launched the initiative to annul capital punishment, which exists in the country, with regard to women, who have committed grave crimes.

As press secretary of the president of Tajikistan Zafar Saidov said, Rakhmonov has proposed formalising this initiative by making respective changes in, and additions to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Furthermore, the Tajik leader proposed that the Parliamentarians reduce the number of the articles, which envisage death penalty for men, from fifteen to five. At the same time he deems it necessary to enforce death penalty to individuals found guilty of terrorism, murder with particular cruelty, illegal operations with drugs on a specially large scale, participation in criminal groups, and rapes with aggravating circumstances.

By RIA Novosti's information, the initiative of president Rakhmonov will be considered at one of the nearest meetings of the lower chamber of Tajikistan's parliament - the house of representatives.
