A man was prevented from attending a solidarity meeting in Spain, at which Prince Felipe was present because his name was Hassan.
The incident took place yesterday at the Autonomous University in Madrid. El Hassan Arabi, President of the Solidarity Association for the Integration of Immigrants claims he was asked to leave the meeting, at which the heir to the Spanish crown was speaking, because of his Arabic origins.
“I do not understand why they have a Day of Solidarity if they are the ones who stop immigrants from integrating into Spanish society,” claimed El Hassan Arabi.
The incident is a classic example of the hysteria gripping the world in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks and the ensuing anthrax scare. Reacting in a hostile way to external characteristics such as colour, race, creed or name is primary and racist and belongs to the first millennium, not the third.
