Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a number of cooperation agreements as they met in the Russian capital Tuesday. The two officials signed, among others, an agreement on economic, scientific & technological, and cultural cooperation between Moscow and Belarus' Gomel Region. This agreement envisages the creation of joint ventures and the arrangement of joint exhibitions, fairs, and auctions. The sides are going to provide assistance for small and medium-sized businesses. In their joint scientific developments, Moscow and the Gomel Region will focus on food production technologies, telecommunications, and information technologies (IT). Messrs. Luzhkov and Lukashenko praised the level of economic interaction between the Russian capital and the Republic of Belarus. They expect the newly signed documents to be mutually beneficial.
