In Far Eastern Forests, Boy Scouts Discover Monument To 13 Japanese Pow's

Boy scouts from a history club at a school in the Korfovski village in the Khabarovsk region have discovered in Far Eastern taiga forests a monument to Japanese prisoners of war who died in captivity in the 50s. The scouts found a stone post with almost effaced Japanese hieroglyphics. "Old folk told scouts that near the stone was found a camp of Japanese prisoners of war", history teacher and chief of the club Tatyana Petukhova reported. Further inquiry helped to establish that Japanese POW's erected a monument to those who died in the camp. Staffers of the regional military commissariat and the Khabarovsk regional interior department studied archives and established the names of the buried 13 Japanese. In spring boy scouts and teachers will tidy up the place around the monument, put up a plate with the names of the 13 POW's and plant 13 larches.
