Helicopter crashes on busy freeway, 1 dead

By Anastasia Tomazhenkova: Officials reported a small helicopter bumped into the traffic lanes of a busy freeway. One person dead.

Ron Myers, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman, claimed the helicopter crashed Friday night on the southbound lanes of Highway 110.

The aircraft was burning when fire crews arrived. One body was pulled from the charred fuselage. The victim's identity was not immediately released.

Bruce Nelson, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman, said the helicopter was a two-seated Robinson R22. Investigators from the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were at the scene of the crash.

Debris was scattered across several hundred yards of the freeway. There were no immediate reports of any other injuries, though some cars may have driven over debris, Nelson said.
