Winter storm warnings declared in USA's Northeast

43178.jpegWet snow, sleet and rain fell across the Northeast on Wednesday in a storm that was expected to intensify through the day, forecasters said.

According to the National Weather Service, winter storm warnings were declared in regions surrounding Washington, D.C.; Wilmington, Delaware; Philadelphia, New York, Hartford, Providence and Boston, Reuters said.

The National Weather Service in Philadelphia has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect until 4 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27.

A significant amount of snow, sleet and rain has moved into the area and will change into snow this evening, Wednesday, Jan. 26. Snow will be heavy at times and will accumulate 1 to 2 inches an hour.

Snow accumulations will range anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of snow, according to Bucks Local News.

Heavy snow, with some mixtures of snow and sleet, is expected for the afternoon and early evening. Between 5 and 9 inches of snow is predicted for Riverhead.

Eastern Long Island will experience the highest winds with gusts of more than 35 mph. Sunny skies are expected for tomorrow with a high temperature of 36 degrees, Riverhead News-Review reports.
