Russian Energy Minister Igor Yusufov and UK e-commerce Minister Stephen Timms have signed a memorandum on developing the North European Gas Pipeline. The document was signed in London at a Russian-UK energy conference with participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
In his speech before the signing of the memorandum Blair pointed to the importance of developing long-term relations with Russia in the energy sector. He admitted that the partnership with Russia was strategically important for the United Kingdom, Rossiya (Russia) television reported.
