Russian emergencies minister Sergei Shoigu has come out for enhancing the Russian "humanitarian influence" in Afghanistan. According to RIA Novosti, the minister said on Wednesday that rendering humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people is part of the Russian strategy. It is necessary to close the main channels of drug trafficking, a considerable part of which goes from Afghanistan, and protect our southern borders, he pointed. Shoigu believes that enhancing the Russian "humanitarian influence" will be conducive to solving these questions. He proposed, in particular, that centres of training Afghans should be organised.
