Russian, Finnish governments to open new automobile crossing point

New international automobile crossing point Salla will open in the Alakurtti direction on the Russian-Finnish border on Friday, RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the government of the Murmansk Region.

It is expected that Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, director of the Federal Frontier Service Konstantin Totsky and head of the government of Finland Paavo Lipponen will take part in the ceremony of the formal opening of the crossing point.

About 7 million euro were spent on the construction of the crossing point and of the supply lines to it. In 1999-2001 money was allocated by the TACIS programme of technical assistance of the EU within the framework of the Border Cooperation project. The crossing point will be able to let up to 200 motor vehicles a day pass across the border.
