Swedish Journalists Leave Afghanistan

Journalists from the Swedish 4th TV channel and the Aftonbladet newspaper are leaving Afghanistan. They and other Western journalists will be taken by a convoy to Dushanbe, the channel's management reported on Tuesday. Journalists' departure relates to the last night's assassination of the camera man of the 4th channel of the Swedish television. Olav Stremberg, 42, was shot by robbers in Taloqan in the house, which was occupied by a group of Swedish journalists. According to Bo Linden, an Aftonbladet's correspondent who eyewitnessed the tragedy, at first, armed robbers entered the room where him and the translator were sitting. The three armed youngsters aged 14-15, maximum 20, seized money, mobile telephones and computers. Then, they knocked at Olav Stremberg's room. When he opened the door, they heard a gun-shot. According to Rolf Porseryd, another reporter who was in the room with the assassinated camera man, Olav died of wounds in his chest on the way to the hospital. Stremberg has been working on TV since 1998. He had three children.
