Heads of Arctic regions of Russia, Sweden, Norway, and Finland are due to discuss development of cooperation in the Barents Sea area at their regular meeting. The regional council convenes Tuesday in the Norwegian town of Kirkenes. The participants in the session are due to discuss the issues of cooperation in the fields of ecology, business, tourism, cultural exchange, social development. Recently, the Komi republic entered this structure of multilateral regional cooperation, and its representatives will take part in the regional council session. The regional cooperation is carried out within the framework of the Barents Council established in 1993. Its founding act is the Declaration of Promoting Cooperation in Northern Areas signed by Foreign Ministers of Russia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and EU representatives.
