UK Prince visits Sakhalin

British Prince Andrew and Sakhalin Governor Ivan Malakhov discussed Wednesday prospects of oil and gas projects' development in Sakhalin, the regional administration reports.

Prince Andrew is a British government special representative for international trade and investment. His visit to Sakhalin aims at, in particular, visiting oil and gas producing facilities of the Sakhalin Energy consortium, whose controlling block of shares belongs to Royal Dutch/Shell. British Petroleum/Amoco also takes part in contractor's work to fulfill oil and gas projects in Sakhalin.

The natural gas-liquefying plant, which is the first in Russia, with the use of cutting edge British technologies, is being constructed in the Prigorodnoye settlement in Sakhalin's south.

The program of stay of Prince Andrew includes laying wreaths to the memorial to governor Igor Farkhutdinov and regional administration employees who died on August 20, 2003 in an air crash in Kamchatka (peninsula adjoining the Kuril Islands from the north, part of the Sakhalin region).
