The extension of the mandate for the OSCE mission in Chechnya will depend on the whole development of the situation in the republic, said Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov at a press conference after talks with his Portuguese counterpart.
The extension of the mandate is "an issue we will consider taking into account the development of the situation on the whole," he said.
"The republic's political and humanitarian restoration is among factors to be considered while deciding on cooperation with the OSCE," the minister pointed out.
At the talks with the Portuguese foreign minister and the OSCE incumbent chairman Antonio Martins da Cruz, Ivanov gave a detailed description of the situation in the Chechen republic and of the efforts made by the Russian government for reaching a settlement, he said.
Ivanov pointed out that Russia was intensively cooperating with different international organizations, including the OSCE, on this issue.
