Amnesty International protest in Ukraine against human rights violations in Russia

An Amnesty International bus tour is traveling around Ukraine from August 26 to September 14. As a Rosbalt correspondent was informed by Antonina Taranovskaya, press secretary for the Ukrainian association of Amnesty International, the bus has a Swiss number plate and the logo of Amnesty International and is traveling around Central and Eastern Europe from July 12 to the end of October. The 100-day tour is part of an international campaign known as Justice for all against human rights violations in Russia.

The bus will pass through 8 regions of Ukraine covering over 2 thousand kilometres and stopping in Lvov, Vinnitsa, Kiev, Chernovtsy and other cities. Many events will be organised along the way to show the public about the way that human rights are being violated.

The bus will be parked outside the Russian embassy in Kiev on September 4. Organisers will meet journalists, public figures and officials.

The bus has been described as a mobile exhibition but it also contains Amnesty International videos about human rights. Those visiting the bus will not only hear about human rights violations they will also be given the opportunity to provide assistance for victims. All visitors will be asked to sign a petition to Russian President Vladimir Putin asking him to protect former Soviet citizens who are now living in Russia and make sure they have the right to Russian citizenship when Soviet passports become invalid on December 31 of this year. Visitors will also be asked to appeal to the governments of Egypt, Indonesia, Turkey and other countries against the use of torture.
