France to promote weapons exports

French government will create a commission to promote weapons exports.

Francois Fillon, speaking at a conference of French ambassadors, said the new panel would be set up in coming weeks to tap "a market in full expansion."

"Our exports of weapons are facing competition that is more and more diversified," Fillon said. "France must not allow its position to deteriorate."

Defense Minister Herve Morin was expected to meet Thursday with leaders of 15 small- and mid-sized businesses in the defense industry to discuss ways of enhancing their growth, the defense ministry said in a statement.
