Portuguese President And Spouse In St. Petersburg On Official Visit To Russia

President Jorge Sampaio of Portugal and Maria Jose Ritte, his spouse, arrived in St. Petersburg, 13:04, Moscow time, on an official visit to Russia. Mayor Vladimir Yakovlev, and top officers of the Leningrad Military District, the Leningrad naval base and of municipal law-enforcement bodies met them at the Pulkovo airport. The mayor presented a bunch of flowers to Portugal's First Lady. Accompanied by Portuguese cabinet ministers and parliamentarians, the presidential couple went from the airport to the monument to the defenders of Leningrad from nazi invaders. President Sampaio is to lay a basket of flowers to the shrine of World War II.
