About Two Dozen Planes Will Be Deployed on the Russian-Kirghiz Military Air Base In Kant

About two dozen military, military-transport and training planes of the two countries will be deployed on the Kirghiz-Russian air base in Kant. Defence Minister of Kirghizia Esen Topoyev told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

According to him, the work on reconstructing the Kant military airfield "is going on in accordance with the established schedule." It is expected that the base will start functioning in July.

The minister also said that the two countries were now coordinating the questions of financing the air base. The treaty on the activity of the base in Kant will be signed for 25 years.

The Kant military aerodrome is situated some 30 kilometres away from the Kirghiz capital. The base is being created with the aim of attaching an air component to the Rapid Reaction Force within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.

The member-countries of the Collective Security Treaty are Armenia, Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Russia and Tajikistan.
