Georgians burn effigy of Mikhail Saakashvili near parliament building

A crowd of citizens of Georgia set the effigy of incumbent President Mikhail Saakashvili on fire in front of the parliament building. The people wanted the the authorities to fulfill their obligations, GeorgiaTimes wrote.

The flames also engulfed the effigy of the candidate for president from United National Movement, the leader of the parliamentary minority, David Bakradze, as well as photographs of representatives of national movements and those who held political positions under the previous government.

The ritual of burning the effigies was conducted in an effort to make the political elite of Georgia answer the question of why it takes so long to fulfill promises.

On December 10, 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, its thirty articles enshrining basic and fundamental rights guaranteeing dignity of the human person and equality for all, regardless of race, color, creed or gender. A pipe dream?
