Presidents of Collective Security Treaty members praise jubilee session

Presidents of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty have highly estimated the tenth jubilee session, held in Moscow, and the Treaty proper. In their opinion, conditions for sustained and secure development of the member countries are being created within the framework of this Treaty. Addressing a press conference held on results of the session, Kyrghyz President Askar Akayev stressed the importance of military-technical assistance given by signatories of the Treaty to Kyrghyzstan in 1999-2000, the time of attack by international terrorists from Afghanistan. "The Collective Security Treaty works with success when there is a need," he said. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has called the Treaty a kind of "insurance policy in case of an external threat." He recalled that a collective rapid-deployment force was created in the face of a Taliban threat on the Southern borders of the Treaty member states. Today the force is in "the holding pattern in case of emergency," said Nazarbayev.
