A draft project to build a stadium in Baghdad drafted before the war by a Russian company will be fulfilled by a US company specialising in construction of sports facilities, the Iraqi Al-Yaum Al-Ahir newspaper reported on Tuesday referring to "an executive official" in the Iraqi temporary coalition administration.
The Russian project, which, according to the Iraqi newspaper, was given to the coalition administration after the collapse of Saddam Hussein's regime will be taken as a basis, while constructing the new sport complex in Baghdad. The newspaper says the construction is due to start "in the near future".
Negotiations concerning construction of the stadium in Baghdad, which is supposed to admit 120 thousand people, were conducted by the Russian Olympic committee at the end of 2001.
