Uzbek President visits Iran

President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan is paying an official visit to Iran, June 17-18, on an invitation from the host country's President, reports the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The agenda revolves round bilateral contacts and international issues of shared interest - in particular, the progress of transnational transport in the area. A bilateral package is expected for signing.

Iran has invested in 40 Uzbek-based industrial companies. Joint ventures account for 29 of those.

President Karimov has paid official visits to Iran on three previous occasions.
