Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili's first official trip abroad has brought his country EUR 12 million. These funds have been provided by Germany to revitalize the Georgian electricity sector.
After meeting German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder yesterday Mr Saakashvili told journalists that he greatly appreciates Germany's financial support. Germany, he pointed out, played an important role in establishing Georgian independence, it was the first country to recognize its sovereignty and it has provided substantial financial support. Germany also promised to help Georgia resolve its turbulent relations with Russia.

The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Michael Calvey, the founder of Baring Vostok investment fund, on allegations of embezzling 2.5 billion rubles from Vostochny Bank. Calvey will be held in custody until April 13
