The Slovak ambassador to Russia, Augustin Chisaru, was summoned Wednesday to the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry to receive an official, protest, according to the ministry press office. As reported by a Rosbalt correspondent, the move came in response to an order issued in the Slovak capital Bratislava that a Russian diplomat there leave the country 'for activities incompatible with his diplomatic status.'
Chisaru was told that 'Russia reserved the right to respond appropriately for the expulsion of the Russian diplomat from Slovakia.' In addition, Chisaru was told that the move 'sharply contradicts assurances by the Slovak government regarding its intentions to develop traditionally friendly relations with Russia following the Slovak Republic's entry into NATO.' In connection with Slovakia's unfriendly move, Russia reserved for itself the right to take appropriate measures.
