Avalanche kills skier in Austria

Two skiers are buried by avalanche in Austria’s alpine province of Tyrol on Monday. One of them is found dead. Rescuers managed to dig out the second victim alive, authorities said.

A mountain rescue unit and a helicopter were on the scene of the avalanche in the Sellraintal region near Innsbruck, officials said.

They said the snowslide happened around noon (1000 GMT) as skiers belonging to a tour group were moving through the area.

The identity and nationality of the person killed in the avalanche was not immediately released.
