Police arrested an 18-year-old under suspicion of stabbing his half brothers, 11-year-old twins, leaving one dead and the other seriously injured, both wrapped in a blood-soaked blanket in the attic of their home.
Troy Hill was arrested Wednesday after he emerged from some woods nearby.
"There was blood everywhere," the boys' maternal grandfather, Lovett Williams, told reporters Tuesday. "Everywhere. Blood all over the house. Downstairs, up the steps."
The surviving twin, Tyrel Hill, identified his half brother as the attacker, police said. He was in critical condition. Tyron Hill died at the scene.
Troy Hill was to be arraigned on charges of criminal homicide and attempted homicide.
Police said they believe Hill has emotional problems, and Hill's grandmother said he had been depressed, but authorities Wednesday said they would not discuss a possible motive.
Williams, who lives across the street, went to check on the twins after their mother called the house from work and got no answer, police said.
He said he heard one of the boys calling out, "Pappy, I'm dead. I'm dying," and found Tyrel Hill hiding in the attic, bleeding and wrapped in a blanket. "I said, 'Who did this?' He said, 'Troy."' Tyron was also found in the attic.
