Moose hunter believed killed by bear in Sweden

Police believes that a moose hunter found dead near his cabin was killed by a bear.

"The wounds on his body indicate that he has been scratched by a bear, and bear excrement has been found nearby," police spokeswoman Ann-Christin Johnsen said.

The man was found by his hunting team early Monday next to his lodge in Valsjobyn, a village close to the Norwegian border.

"It is extremely rare that bears kill humans in Sweden," said Klas Allander, predator expert at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

Allander said another man was killed by a bear in October 2004, but that before that it had been almost 100 years ago since the last case in Sweden.
