Washington has refused financial assistance to the government of Ukraine. The USD 200 million or more previously allocated for the purpose will go to Ukrainian human rights protectors instead. According to the US embassy in Ukraine, for Washington the refusal of assistance was a way to express dissatisfaction with not enough cooperation on the part of Kiev with the US commission that had investigated the alleged sale of Kolchuga radars to Iraq.
Ukrainian authorities once again categorically denied any possibility the radars could have been sold to Iraq. According to some sources, Kiev intends to invite the US commission back for a new investigation of the alleged breach of UN's arms embargo against Baghdad.
