US President Barack Obama cracked down on Republicans for nominating Donald Trump, who sympathizes with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"You're the party that is tough on foreign policy and opposes Russia, and then you nominate this guy, whose role model is [Russian President] Vladimir Putin, the former head of the KGB? I'm sorry, what happened?" Obama said.
Vladimir Putin had served in counterintelligence at the Leningrad department of the KGB since 1977. In 1985-1990, Putin served in foreign intelligence residency in the GDR (German Democratic Republic). On August 20, 1991, Putin, being a lieutenant colonel, retired from the KGB. In 1998-1999, Putin served as the director of the FSB (Federal Security Bureau).
Not that long ago, Barack Obama made a blunder during a press conference after a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. Obama referred to the Afghan President as Hamid Karzai, even though the latter had stepped down as president in 2014. Ghani tried not to pay attention to Obama's error.
