USA wants to participate in forming of Afghan army

US Undersecretary for Defence Paul Wolfowitz, currently in Kabul, will discuss the counter-terrorist operation and the forming of the national army with Afghan leader Hamid Karzai and his first deputy, Defence Minister Mohammad Qassem Fahim.

The talks will also focus on the disarmament of Mujahedin detachments, informed sources in the Afghan Defence Ministry said.

The US side believes that Mujahedin detachments are the main destabilising factor, the sources noted. Meanwhile, the Afghan General Staff considers that the process of disarmament can last for many years.
