"The Russian side would be grateful to British partners for assistance in establishing contacts with the Free Syrian Army to coordinate efforts between the army and the armed forces of Syria in the struggle against the Islamic State," a message posted on the website of the Russian Embassy to the UK said, Pravda.Ru reports with reference to Interfax.
On October 8, Yakovenko and Gass held a meeting to exchange views on the current state of affairs in Syria.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow was ready to establish a contact with the opposition Free Syrian Army and requested adequate information from Washington. However, Russia has not received the information from any foreign partners yet. Lavrov referred to the Free Syrian Army and the moderate Syrian opposition as a "phantom structure." "The moderate opposition does not have any success to boast of - no one has ever heard about them, nor has anyone heard much about the moderate opposition either," Sergei Lavrov said.
