Russian long-range aviation struck the positions of the Islamic State terrorist group in Syria. The bomber aircraft took off from an air base in Iran.

Russian long-range Tu-22M3 bombers and Tu-22M3 and Su-24 fighter aircraft took off from Hamedan air base in Iran to attack the positions of ISIL terrorists in Syria, officials at the Russian Defense Ministry said, RIA Novosti reports.

Thus, the news agency has confirmed that Russia deployed long-range aviation in Iran. On August 16, the Russian aviation struck the positions of the Islamic State and Jabhat en-Nusra (the groups are banned in Russia) in provinces of Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor and Idlib.

Five large warehouses with weapons, ammunition, fuel and lubricants, terrorist training camps in the areas of settlements of Serakab, Al-Bab, Aleppo and Deir ez-Zor, three control points and a significant number of terrorist fighters were destroyed as a result of the air raids.
