Clinton ordenou que Bin Laden fosse morto, segundo o "Washington Post"

WASHINGTON - O ex-presidente americano Bill Clinton autorizou o assassinato de Osama Bin Laden e, em três ocasiões, esteve perto de ordenar que mísseis fossem lançados contra ele, após os bombardeios de 1998 que atingiram duas embaixadas dos Estados Unidos na África, publica o jornal "The Washington Post" nesta quarta-feira. Clinton ordenou as operações secretas destinadas a capturar o chefe da rede Al-Qaeda, antes de autorizar o assassinato do milionário e após acrescentar vários dos colaboradores dele à lista de pessoas procuradas e ordenar a destruição dos aviões particulares em que eles viajassem, afirma o jornal, citando ex-oficiais americanos e fontes ligadas às operações.

Clinton teve que respeitar as seguintes normas: apenas armas operadas à distância poderiam ser usadas contra Bin Laden, e visando apenas aos terroristas, e não àqueles que lhe forneciam abrigo.

A Agência Central de Inteligência americana (CIA) recrutou, treinou, pagou e equipou tropas de reforço no Paquistão, Usbequistão, e entre milícias tribais do Afeganistão, com o objetivo de capturar ou matar Bin Laden, informa o jornal.

A Divisão de Atividades Especiais da CIA entrou clandestinamente no Afeganistão em 1999 e construiu uma pista de pouso para levar Bin Laden do país caso ele fosse capturado, ou para retirar de lá aliados americanos.

O governo Clinton localizou Bin Laden em três ocasiões, mas não ordenou ataques de mísseis contra ele devido a dúvidas em relação às informações fornecidas pela inteligência.
