Serbia’s Parliament adopts Kosovo Resolution

Serbia’s parliament late yesterday adopted the government’s Resolution for negotiations on the status of Kosovo.

The resolution envisages a readiness for compromise, provided the territorial integrity of Serbia and Montenegro is preserved. Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said that a solution for Kosovo must be sought within the framework of Serbia-Montenegro’s sovereignty and substantial autonomy for Kosovo Albanians. However, he said, in addition to the political autonomy of Kosovo, the autonomy of Serbs within the province must be secured.

The resolution also gives Kostunica’s government a mandate to negotiate on the status of the province. Kosovo Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic says this is not the best solution.

Despite the adoption of the resolution, the make-up of the government’s negotiating team is still unknown, B92 reports.
