Independent media in Sarajevo have claimed, with reference government sources, that many officers from the Islamic-Croatian army of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been involved in the illegal sale of weapons to terrorists in Kosovo and Macedonia. The illegal sale and transportation of weapons was conducted on a massive scale and reached its peak during the armed clashes in Kosovo and Macedonia. Staff at the federal ministries of internal affairs and the Islamic secret police, the Agency for Investigation and Documentation, were involved in this activity. Five military and police officers have been detained and are under investigation on suspicion of complicity in illegal arms sales. Moreover, soldiers serving with SFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina and federal police arrested a further six people in December for illegally possessing weapons destined to be used in terrorist attacks.
