Emergency and environment ministers from Central Asia holding a session

Emergency and environment ministers from the Central Asian countries will discuss regional ecological safety at a 2-day Managers' Council of the Regional Ecology Centre, REC, that opened in Kyrgyzstan on July 5th.

The main goal of the event is to work out a common strategy for the states' cooperation in preventing ecological calamities and protecting the environment, said REC executive director Bulat Yesekin.

"The Regional centre is meant to coordinate the dialog between the governments and cooperation of non-governmental organizations and state structures in the sphere," he explained.

The parties will also discuss the concept of creating a single ecology database for Central Asia.

The session is attended by the REC executive council president, prominent writer and public figure Chingiz Aitmatov.

The REC of Central Asia with headquarters in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan, was set up on the initiative of the region's five governments, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
