Russia and Belarus to Help Raise Volume of Rail Transport on Second Pan-European Corridor

The share of rail transport on the second pan-European transport corridor in terms of the total volume of transport is expected to double in 2003. As a Rosbalt correspondent was informed by the Belarus foreign ministry, this decision was taken by the railway managers of Belarus, Germany, Russia and Poland at a meeting in Berlin on Tuesday March 4, devoted to increasing the volume and quality of freight and passenger transport on the second pan-European transport corridor.

The increased volume of transportation will be made possible by simpler customs and border control, a modernized infrastructure, the introduction of an electronic system of communication, lower costs and improvement of the rolling-stock.
