Lethal parachute jump

Two athletes were killed in an accident while making a team parachute jump above the Kuuziku air field outside Rapla, Estonia.

According to a local radio report, Latvian athletes Alexei Krylatsky and Sergei Batmanov were experienced parachute jumpers, having performed 3,000 and 1,000 jumps respectively. The accident occurred during a low-height jump, when one of the parachutists collided with the other. A witness said the shroud lines of their parachutes got tangled, and both jumpers instantly crashed down to the ground.
