Unprecedentedly for the judicial practice of Daghestan, Russia's North Caucasian republic neighbouring on Chechnya, on July 10th its Supreme Court criminal college is to start hearings of the case against British citizen John Bininy and Chechen rebel Mukhtarpasha Ismailov, according to the Supreme Court's secretariat.
The accused men were detained in November 2001 in Daghestan's Novolaksky district when crossing the administrative border with Chechnya.
They are charged with crimes under three articles of the Russian criminal code: setting up an illegal armed formation or participation in it, illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition, illegal drug storage and trade, as well as illegal crossing of the Russian state border.
