Abkhazia Reports Amassment of Russian Troops - 12 September, 2002 - News

Speaking today at a press conference, Tamaz Nadareishvili, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, said Russian Troops were being amassed in the autonomous republic. According to Mr. Nadareishvili, 'Russia began bringing in troops right before President Putin's statement. At this time there are thousands of Russian soldiers in Abkhazia'.

Avtandil Ioseliani, the head of Georgia's Department of Reconnaissance, said that 'In this connection, the aggravation of the situation in Abkhazia, including the Kodor Ravine, is not out of the question'.
