Estonia's Russian Party Nominates 100 Candidates to Parliament

The leaders of the United Russian Peoples' Party of Estonia, URRPE, have approved the list of the party's candidates for parliamentary elections due on March 2nd. The list contains 101 names. The URRPE is the only political organization of non-native population represented in the Estonian legislative assembly.

"Our main campaign proposition is to overcome the social and economic inequality between the republic's Estonian and Russian-speaking population," the party's Secretary General Anatoly Yegorov told RIA Novosti.

The inequality between the Estonians and the Russians results from the policy Estonia's ruling parties have conducted for more than 10 years, he believes. The main problem is still the indefinite status of the Russian language, which is the mother tongue for a one third of the republic's permanent residents, Yegorov pointed out.
